What to expect this yomtov:

  1. The maravos are absolutely stunning. An honorable way to bring in the Yom Tov.

  2. Yigdal has tunes that are only used on Yomim Tovim

  3. The Tal Tefillo uses a tune that is hundreds of years old and likely passed through all the small communities across Germany. (Though it is not the only Yekkishe tune for Tal, by far.

  4.  In the morning, we will be singing Brach Dodi, which is a piyut based on Shir HaShirim and is asking Hashem to see all the suffering of His people and please, quickly, “run as a deer” to their salvation

The tune is haunting and sad at the same time. Brach Dodi ends with the words Biglal Avos Toshia Banim… Go’al Yisrael, and this is sung to the tune of the Sefirah, which is a discussion for another time. Ironically, the nicest tune of the entire year.

While these additions seem small, it is something many people would relish and quietly look forward to.
